Silver Contacts: Finding the right kind

If your goal is to get some silver contact lenses so you can look like your favorite character every day, or just for special occasions like costume parties or Halloween then you should have no problems pulling off that look with the silver contacts available today.

With other colors you might have 100 different shades to choose from to get the exact look, and sometimes if a colored contact lens says it is for a certain character, it might actually not look much like it.

That’s why you have to sometimes spend a lot of times finding the perfect colored contact to match it. With silver it’s easier just because silver is silver for the most part.

You might have the differences in how light or dark silver it is, and whether or not it’s more of a grey color in reality. Also, you might need the entire eye covered up or just the iris, those are some of the differences but they shouldn’t be hard to decide on.

Some other factors that you should weigh when deciding on what silver colored contact lenses you want to buy is the size of the contacts. You might also be able to find the perfect zombie contact lenses that look similar.

While most people’s eyes will fit the standard size, when you order silver contacts online, most reputable online sites will allow you to choose the curve and diameter, so it’s important to know these in regards to your eyes, even if it means seeking that information from a doctor or eye car specialist.

If you get a size too small or too big you will notice a difference in how comfortable they are, and how long you can wear them without your eyes becoming uncomfortable and having to remove them because of the discomfort.

Because colored contacts, regardless of prescription or not, can only be sold by licensed eye car specialist, there is not as much of a problem around today of finding sub-par contact lenses but the problem does s till exist.

It’s important to find a site that you believe to be reputable, and one of the best ways of doing this is by finding or talking to someone who has purchased colored contacts from them before.

Trusting a friends opinion on how their contacts worked for them has been found to be one of the best ways of knowing the quality you are going to get. A site can claim anything they want, but at the end of the day if they don’t live up to it they will just be empty words and they will lose business.

Do I need a prescription to buy silver contact lenses?

In a word, yes. Even if you will be getting silver eye contacts that will not be vision correcting you will be required to get a valid prescription before you can purchase them.

This is a fairly recent law within the last few years. It was created by the FDA to prevent injuries and problems with colored contact lenses being sold that were unsafe or not up to standards. You used to be able to buy contact lenses anywhere you could imagine such as Corner stores, flea markets, etc. This was nice, but also created a problem because there was no regulation on the quality so people were trying to save money and make cheap contacts, or reuse old ones. So the FDA passed a law stating that all contact lenses, prescription or not, colored or not, were going to be considered medical devices and therefore would require that you get a prescription before you could buy them, and that they could only be sold by a licensed professional.

If you do plan on buying silver contact lenses online, you will be required to show them that you do have a valid prescription, usually by fax.

How long will my silver contacts last?

This depends on a few factors. Namely, the quality of the silver contacts, how often you wear them and how well you take care of them. Since silver contacts will usually be made for theatrical purposes, they will usually be plano, and those are not meant for longer wear times, such as in prescription contact lenses for vision correction. So they will not usually be made quiet as well, which will make them not last as long. Typically, if you are buying colored contact lenses they will last you a few years, as long as when you are not wearing them you keep them properly taken care of, stored and in solution. It also depends if you wear them on a daily basis, compared to just for special occasions like costume parties or Halloween.

Is it okay to sleep in my silver contact lenses?

There are such things as extended wear contact lenses which are said to be okay to sleep in, but silver contacts will not usually come in this style. Silver contact lenses are going to be more for theatrical and costume purposes, and not for daily use, and especially not for extended wear. This is not to say that there is not a manufacturer out there who has made them, or will make them, but before you decide to wear them overnight make sure that it was clearly stated to you by a doctor or eye care specialist that this will be okay. Typically, the softer the contact lenses the more long-term damage can be caused. The harder contact lenses were reported to not have nearly as much of an effect on the contact lens wearers. Really the same rules apply no matter what color or style you buy, even for Avatar Contact Lenses.

Different types of silver contacts

If you plan on buying silver contact lenses it will help if you know exactly what kind you need. There are many uses for silver contacts from everyday use, to costumes and Halloween parties. You might be trying to replicate the look from a certain movie, comic book or your favorite actor. It helps to know the styles available.

There are essentially three different types of contacts. Tinted, natural colored and theatrical/costume contact lenses. Since we will be talking about silver contacts on this site, tinted will not really be mentioned, but I will explain what they are.

Tinted contacts are designed to help the contact lens wearer locate and put the contacts in easier and quicker. With clear contacts it becomes very easy to lose them or misplace them since they are essentially invisible. When they added tints to the contacts it made it much easier to locate them and insert them. Also, if you drop them you can find them without having to basically stop traffic and tell everyone to freeze while you go on the nearly impossible search.

The second style of colored contacts you will normally find are not going to be quite as popular in silver either, although they do exist. The second type of colored contacts are geared more towards natural colored eyes, which you won’t find with silver.

Natural colored contacts work better for lighter eyes because they will add a good amount of tint to the natural eye color to give it the appearance of another color. For instance, if you have light blue eyes, you could get a natural green tinted colored contact and it would look natural. If you have dark brown eyes and try to get a natural green look, you would have to typically go with theatrical green contacts as opposed to natural because they wouldn’t do enough to change your eye color.

The third type of silver contacts is the most common for the color silver. Theatrical and costume style silver contacts are good for changing the entire color of your eye or just the iris and/or the sclera (the whites of your eye). You can get them in prescription strength if needed and they are most popular around Halloween seasons, although they are great for every day use for some extra attention or if you want to have the best costume at your office party.

You can get them in many styles of silver, from Vampires to Zombies and everything in-between. One of the most popular styles is the look of Vin Diesel’s character in Pitch Black, Riddick, where he has silver eyes that let him see better in the dark.
