If you plan on buying silver contact lenses it will help if you know exactly what kind you need. There are many uses for silver contacts from everyday use, to costumes and Halloween parties. You might be trying to replicate the look from a certain movie, comic book or your favorite actor. It helps to know the styles available.
There are essentially three different types of contacts. Tinted, natural colored and theatrical/costume contact lenses. Since we will be talking about silver contacts on this site, tinted will not really be mentioned, but I will explain what they are.
Tinted contacts are designed to help the contact lens wearer locate and put the contacts in easier and quicker. With clear contacts it becomes very easy to lose them or misplace them since they are essentially invisible. When they added tints to the contacts it made it much easier to locate them and insert them. Also, if you drop them you can find them without having to basically stop traffic and tell everyone to freeze while you go on the nearly impossible search.
The second style of colored contacts you will normally find are not going to be quite as popular in silver either, although they do exist. The second type of colored contacts are geared more towards natural colored eyes, which you won’t find with silver.
Natural colored contacts work better for lighter eyes because they will add a good amount of tint to the natural eye color to give it the appearance of another color. For instance, if you have light blue eyes, you could get a natural green tinted colored contact and it would look natural. If you have dark brown eyes and try to get a natural green look, you would have to typically go with theatrical green contacts as opposed to natural because they wouldn’t do enough to change your eye color.
The third type of silver contacts is the most common for the color silver. Theatrical and costume style silver contacts are good for changing the entire color of your eye or just the iris and/or the sclera (the whites of your eye). You can get them in prescription strength if needed and they are most popular around Halloween seasons, although they are great for every day use for some extra attention or if you want to have the best costume at your office party.
You can get them in many styles of silver, from Vampires to Zombies and everything in-between. One of the most popular styles is the look of Vin Diesel’s character in Pitch Black, Riddick, where he has silver eyes that let him see better in the dark.
